A BUCKET OF EELS, BY PAUL GODFREY

“A BUCKET OF EELS”, BY PAUL GODFREY.

Performed in the Cottesloe auditorium of the Royal National Theatre.

EXTRA INFORMATION:

“A BUCKET OF EELS” was one of several plays commissioned by the Royal National Theatre as part of the BT sponsored, “NATIONAL CONNECTIONS.” Schools and youth theatres nationwide were invited to produce one of the commissioned plays and the best were invited to showcase at the Royal National Theatre.

The National Theatre Reviewer wrote: “The real treat of the whole production was the transformation of Mrs Sparrow into a bird – a sort of white peacock with massive, circular wings, sparkling white, who appeared to Nick as he stood, as if on a crucifix, in the rain. The last image was the bird, wings spread in a circle, back lit in vibrant red to form the rising sun. One of the most memorable images in theatre that I have seen for a long time.”

A review in the Times Educational Supplement concluded: “ It (“A Bucket of Eels”) was a comic, unpredictable production that got the best out of a talented company.”
