“EASE UP”. “EGRINOK”.
Written as part of the Royal National Theatre’s “Branching Out” initiative. Both productions toured venues in Hungary.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
Steven was invited to participate in a professional work exchange with a theatre practitioner based in Budapest. The exchange was organised by the Royal National Theatre. Steven’s exchange partner was Andrea Szekely, a Director and puppeteer based at the Kolibri Theatre, Budapest.
Andrea came over to England to work with Steven in the Drama department of Shelley High School and then Steven worked at the Kolibri for two weeks. It was during this visit that Steven expanded his knowledge and appreciation of puppetry in the theatre. Following on from this exchange further cultural exchanges were arranged; the Kolibri youth theatre brought a version of Robin Hood, using puppets, to Shelley and toured schools in Yorkshire. Students from Shelley toured Hungary with “EGRINOK” (Women of Eger).
A year later more Shelley students toured Hungary with “EASE UP,” a hard-hitting Drama about the perils of drug taking.
